Zachary Quinto to be Spielberg's George Gerswin?
George Gershwin tragically died young of a brain tumor at the age of 38. Gershwin, the son of Russian Jewish immigrants, started on Tin Pan Alley, writing songs for $15 a week. He wrote the music for several Broadway shows, Hollywood musicals, and crossed over to classical music with orchestral pieces like An American in Paris, and the opera Porgy and Bess. You can't escape his music, especially whenever a United airlines commercial airs (Rhapsody in Blue).
I think Zachary Quinto would be great in this role. He is really one of the best actors on Heroes, and I loved him as Spock. He is so incredibly intense in both roles, and yet is very different and lighter in his personal interviews. He's a very talented guy, and I think doing something completely different from his genre Sci-fi parts is a great move for his career.
But Mr. Spielberg, what is going on with that Lincoln biopic starring Liam Neeson?
Here's one of the few film recordings that exist of Gershwin playing the piano, I've Got Rhythm:

Star Trek 2009 Gag Reel
One more week till the Star Trek DVD is released! I can't wait to see the movie again, and all the extras like the gag reel above.
EW's Popwatch has Zachary Quinto talking about some of the behind the scenes fun:
While Zachary Quinto cracked not much more than a knowing smirk while playing Spock in director J.J. Abrams’ re-vamped Star Trek – out on DVD Nov. 17 — “we did do plenty of laughing off camera,” chuckles Quinto. Anyone who’s seen the leaked gag reel from the movie that’s an extra feature on the impending DVD (it’s out Nov. 17) knows what he’s talking about. “J.J. leads with a sense of humor,” Quinto adds, “and that makes it a lot easier when you’re undertaking something as large as this project was.” So who had Quinto cracking up the most? “Simon Pegg was a big culprit in making me laugh all the time,” Quinto says, but he also singles out co-stars Chris Pine, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood and Karl Urban. “It’s really a funny group of people.”

Hostage: A Love Story
OMG. This is both deeply disturbing and very hilarious.
"How'd you get so sweet?"
"I have sisters."
I love Zachary Quinto. Get this kid another movie, STAT!

Buckle Up...The Wait Is Over - Star Trek Trailer Is Here!!
I have been counting down the hours till I could watch this awesome new trailer for Star Trek in high quality again rather than the camcorder bootleg found on YouTube this weekend. Oh, happy day, it is Monday and it's here, the wait is over. It blew my socks off before Quantum this weekend.
Find it here in high quality, on Apple's Trailer site in Quicktime. Watch it in HD, it's worth it!
How do I love this new trailer? Let me count the ways. J. J. Abrams, you sly devil. The trailer starts out with a speeding 20th century convertible, in chase by with sirens blaring. The kid jumps out of the car at the last minute while the car careens over the cliff. Only then, when we switch to the view of the cop, who appears to be a robot with an air motorcycle, do we realize this is sci-fi. The kid says, "My name is James Tiberius Kirk!" and I whooped inside because now we know it's the Star Trek trailer. Only then do they play the Paramount and Bad Robot logos. One of the coolest openers to a trailer anywhere, and just brilliant.
So many cool flashes go by in quick succession. Simon Pegg as Scotty, "I like this ship. It's exciting!" LOL! Kirk arguing with Spock, "Why don't you make me!" The trailer ends with the very cool and evil looking Eric Bana saying "The wait is over." No, the wait ends in May when this movie finally comes out!
Yes, the movie could still suck, but I am hopeful. I am so hopeful, and whoever edited this trailer together is a genius. I've watched it half a dozen times already!
Update: Finally found the embed code on Awards Daily, and this hilarious comment.
350 years from now, no real progress beyond the Wonderbra. Or the male need to sneak a peek at one. Fascinating.

New Star Trek Posters

Zachary Quinto looks so eerily a clone of Leonard Nimoy as Spock. If you didn't know, the Star Trek trailer will debut this weekend before Quantum of Solace. My husband wants to see the Bond flick this weekend just because of that. Well, as some of you know, he does have a Klingon desk.
