Cemetery Junction trailer
After we had that cheeky teaser trailer with Ricky Gervais calling co-star Ralph Fiennes, "Chuckles", you would have been lead to believe that Cemetery Junction was another of his wry comedies. This new trailer shows that it's a more dramatic coming of age story, and that both Ricky Gervais and Ralph Fiennes are just supporting characters in this movie about young people growing up in a small English town in the 70's. I'm surprised, but I think going in a new direction is great for Gervais, and I can't wait to see his film. Matthew Goode is also in Cemetery Junction, but he doesn't appear in this trailer.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid - Trailer
If you don't have kids, you may not realize what a huge phenomenon the Diary of a Wimpy Kids books are. My 9 year old son is absolutely obsessed with the books. We own them all in hard back and he's read them over and over again countless times.
This trailer gives me some hope that this movie will be a half-way decent adaptation. Steve Zahn is the dad!! The cute little sister from 500 Days of Summer is in it!
It looks like Freaks and Geeks, the early years.

Water For Elephants rumored to have Robert Pattinson, Sean Penna and Reese Witherspoon to star
Director Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) is set to direct an adaptation of the best selling novel Water for Elephants. Sara Gruen's book will be adapted for the screen by Richard LaGravenese (PS I Love You). Yesterday, word came out that Water for Elephants may be Robert Pattinson's next project, to film in June before Breaking Dawn. Reese Witherspoon has already been attached to the film, and Sean Penn is rumored to play Reese's husband in the film, the other part of the love triangle.
When Jacob Jankowski, recently orphaned and suddenly adrift, jumps onto a passing train, he enters a world of freaks, grifters, and misfits, a second-rate circus struggling to survive during the Great Depression, making one-night stands in town after endless town. A veterinary student who almost earned his degree, Jacob is put in charge of caring for the circus menagerie. It is there that he meets Marlena, the beautiful young star of the equestrian act, who is married to August, the charismatic but twisted animal trainer. He also meets Rosie, an elephant who seems untrainable until he discovers a way to reach her.
Sean Penn as a paranoid schizophrenic animal trainer? Yeah, I can totally see that. This looks like it would be a good role to break into more "serious" films for Robert, who would obviously play Jacob. Deadline Hollywood reports:
I haven't read the book yet, but I've got it on order!Deals still have to be made, and putting three pricey stars in a period adult drama is a challenging proposition. Pattinson, who between Twilight segments starred for Summit in Remember Me, has been cautious about choosing his next job, but the prospect of starring in another well-known literary adaptation, potentially alongside two Oscar winners, seems a strong move.

Fish Tank Trailer
Fish Tank won the Jury Prize at Cannes and has made a lot of buzz on the film festival circuit. All I had heard about it was that Michael Fassbender was in it, until I saw this amazing trailer.
The film is a coming-of-age story centering on 15-year-old Mia (Jarvis) who is in a constant state of war with her family and the world around her, without any creative outlet for her considerable energies save a secret love of hip-hop dance. When she meets her party-girl mother's charming new boyfriend Connor (Michael Fassbender), she is amazed to find he returns her attention, and believes he might help her start to make sense of her life. A clear-eyed, potent portrait of teenage sexuality and vulnerability.Wow. This film looks amazing. It has a limited release in the US January 15, and will be also shown On Demand starting Jan. 13th. Michael Fassbender's Hunger becomes available on DVD on Feb. 16th so I can finally see another great performance of his that everyone has been talking about.

Matt Damon on the training he went through to prepare for Invictus
Awards Daily points to this great article and interview about what Matt Damon went through to prepare for Invictus. As Awards Daily points out, he went from gaining weight for The Informant! to having to bulk up to play the captain of a rugby football team. And in rugby, they don't wear pads like in American football, so he had to be ready for some physical punishment on the field. Matt Damon was amazed that the story of the team captain, Pienaar, and Mendela was true.
But after looking up Pienaar online and seeing photos of him, Damon was also incredulous he'd been asked to play the part. "Clint, this guy is huge," Damon protested. "We've never met, but I'm only 5 foot 10."
Eastwood started to laugh. "Oh hell, don't worry about that," he said composedly. "You go worry about everything else!"
Damon had six months to master an elusive South African accent and pack some new muscle on a frame that – because European rugby is a sport that doesn’t use the protective gear of North American football – would be facing pulverizing punishment on the field. He would be playing a real-life character who, in the course of his career, has broken his nose 14 times and received 400 stitches to his face.Read the whole great article here. I think this is going to be a fantastic holiday film.
“I had to build myself up to try to pull off the illusion of being the captain of a South African rugby team,” Damon says. “Ultimately, I was trying to look at every possible pitfall: What are the things that could possibly blow this illusion?”
That’s the way Damon works: thinking hard about a role long before he hits the set. “So I kind of made my little checklist of things to do.”
The 39-year-old actor will always remember his first meeting with Pienaar. He and Freeman received an invitation to Pienaar’s house for a gourmet dinner the South African sports icon was cooking himself.
“He invited me to meet his wife and two boys, and Morgan and I went, and I remember I rang the door bell and I looked UP at him! The first thing I ever said to Francois Pienaar in my life was – ‘I look much bigger on film.’ And he laughed and laughed and gave me a big hug and took me into his house, and that was it.

First Look at Voyage of the Dawn Treader
We get our first look at The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader via an unexected source: Facebook. 20th Century Fox took over the Narnia series, and they've started a production blog of sorts on Facebook. The best thing is that Ben Barnes is back as Prince Caspian. Dawn Treader comes out next year for the holidays in December of 2010.

Michael Fassbender in talks for Jane Eyre!
Variety is reporting that Michael Fassbender is in talks to do a new adaptation of Jane Eyre. The fact that I can't see New Moon till tomorrow is now tempered with this fantastic news! Cary Fukunaga, who directed Sin Nombre is already attached to direct, and Mia Wasikowska, who stars as Alice in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland next spring is also in talks. Filming is due to start next year.
I simply adored Mia in the HBO series In Treatment, and I can't wait to see her as Alice. Ellen Page had previously been attached to play Jane Eyre, but I think Mia is a much better fit.
Project is a period piece but will play up the gothic elements of the story about Jane (Wasikowska), a demure governess who discovers her surly employer Rochester (Fassbender) is harboring a dark secret. The book is one of the most iconic in English literature and has been the subject of numerous previous adaptations.I am doing a little happy dance this morning!!

Matthew Goode and Amy Adams in Leap Year Trailer
Anna, a girl who is always in trouble, is expecting to get an engagement ring from longtime boyfriend, Jeremy, during a romantic dinner. When their four-year anniversary passes without a marriage proposal, she decides to take matters into her own hands. She then follows Jeremy to Dublin to get down on her knee February 29, known as Leap Day, during when women are allowed to propose to men based on Irish tradition.I've been waiting anxiously for the trailer of this Rom Com ever since I heard they were filming it. Matthew Goode hasn't been forced to share a bedroom pretending to be a newlywed since Chasing Liberty, my first jaw-slacked introduction to him. This time he doesn't sleep on the floor, I'm gathering! God, he's just gorgeous.
However, her plane lands on the other side of Ireland and she is forced to enlist the help of handsome and surly Declan to get her across the country. As the two travel across the Emerald Isle, they discover that the road to love can take them to very unexpected places.
Leap Year comes out in early January.
