Facebook works, gang. Fans of Harry Potter's Rupert Grint started a petition to get the small indie film Cherrybomb, in which Rupert stars, a distribution deal. The film had appeared at the Berlin film festival, but until fans started this petition drive for its release, had not been picked up. The film has no definite release date in the UK, but it will likely be out in the first part of 2010.
Grint, 21, previously said was delighted by the fan campaign, which was dreamt up by a website called Ice Cream Man.
"I am backing this campaign wholeheartedly," he said.
"I'm delighted by the huge support the film has already received on the official Facebook page and other sites on the web and am so grateful to my fans in particular, who have travelled the world to support the film at festivals and preview screenings."
Cherrybomb follows teenagers Luke (Robert Sheehan), Malachy (Grint) and Michelle (Kimberley Nixon) as they embark on a wild weekend of drink, drugs, shop-lifting and stealing cars. But what starts out as a game turns deadly serious when the three discover that they can't get off the wild ride they've set in motion.
