Robert Pattinson Mob Scene!

It got scary in San Fran yesterday, and I'm not talking about Stop H8 rallies! Robert Pattinson was due to appear at a mall, and had to cancel due to the mayhem that ensued:

Twilight star Robert Pattinson was forced to cancel a signing at a store in California - when the crowds outside surged out of control.

Security staff at the Hot Topic store in San Francisco only expected around 500 people to attend Monday's event and were overwhelmed when thousands of fans turned up to get a glimpse of the actor.

And the scene on the street outside the shop soon turned ugly as the desperate movie fans surged forward, with many people getting caught in the crush - forcing organisers to scrap the signing and call police.

One girl is said to have suffered a broken nose, while another fainted.
I hope Hot Topic and the studio have a clue now, and plan accordingly. Twilight is big, people!

In happy news, my friend Darling Diva managed to meet Robert last night after the earlier event was canceled. She got him to sign a poster after she waited in the cold, got stepped on, pushed, and shoved. Hope you got pictures!

Entertainment Weekly
has three collector covers and features Twilight this week. Yummy cover pic! I really don't think anyone adequately prepared Robert Pattinson for what he'll be facing after this movie comes out. The interview in the magazine says that author Stephenie Meyer worried about the same thing:
''There is going to be a group of girls who will follow his actions from now on,'' says Meyer. ''I asked the producer, 'Is Rob ready for this? Have you guys prepped him? Is he ready to be the It Guy?' I don't think he really is. I don't think he sees himself that way. And I think the transition is going to be a little rocky.''

In depth interview with Robert Pattinson by Variety

Anne Thompson of Variety videoed an in depth 15 minute interview with Robert Pattinson of Twilight. They discuss whether he felt like "man meat" in the audition process, and she breaks it to him that he's made a "girly" film.

Pattinson, who hasn't seen the movie, says he's prepared to play Cullen in two more Twilight films in the original trilogy. (There's a fourth, more controversial and adult Twilight novel.) Pattinson's next movie, Little Ashes, a gay romance between Salvador Dali and Gabriel Federico Garcia Lorca, is due in March.

Favorite Movies, A-Z

Dear Frankie

Among Movie Blogs, the latest thing is listing favorite movies, one for each letter of the alphabet. It's harder than it looks! For some letters, it's hard to pick just one, and coming up with Z is damn hard. Haven't seen Zodiac yet so couldn't use that. Here's Spout Blog's list, and mine. Love that she chose Joe Vs. the Volcano which I did enjoy (the giant trunk suitcase!).

Auntie Mame
Back to the Future
Casino Royale
Dear Frankie
Empire Strikes Back
Fargo
The Gay Divorcee (Fred Astaire, had to have one Fred and Night & Day is in this), but Gladiator, too.
His Girl Friday (Hot Fuzz was in the running!)
It Happened One Night
Juno
Kate & Leopold
Love Actually
Moonstruck
North By Northwest
Ocean's Eleven (the George Clooney one!)
The Philadelphia Story
The Queen
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Sense and Sensibility
300 (Does that count for T? If you question me, then Tootsie)
The Usual Suspects
Vertigo
Wanted
X-men
Young Frankenstein
Zelig

So looking over my list, not too many obscure foreign films. Lots of romances and classic films, and a smattering of action flicks, too. What's your list?

Govenor Val Kilmer???

No, I'm not kidding. Yes, Batman Forever Val Kilmer, Jim Morrison Val Kilmer, Real Genius Val Kilmer for cripes sake!

Huffington Post reports:

"There's sort of a rumor around that I'm maybe thinking about running to be governor of New Mexico? Well, it's sort of true. It's been my home 25 years. I really love my state. Poor, hardworking, decent people - Native Americans, carpenters, artists, expats mixed in with hundreds of the world's smartest physicists at Los Alamos. I've always thought of myself as functioning as a candidate for them.

"The media interests me and it's influenced politicians since the '60s, and I'm approaching this as a worthy serious endeavor. I would be very comfortable in my position as a representative for the people."
"People in the state are being supportive. Our current governor, Bill Richardson, who's hoping to be picked as secretary of state, and whom I've seen down in the dirt helping people you know could never help him in return, and whom I love, had a dinner for me and said not to dismiss the idea. Said I could be a great governor.

Well, allrighty then. Stranger things have happened. Bedtime for Bonzo, Ronald Reagan, Arnold!

RIP to the man who gave us Andre Marek

Amidst all the hoopla about the election, it was almost overlooked that author Michael Crichton died of cancer on Tuesday at age 66. He's probably best known for writing Jurassic Park, but he also penned scientific thrillers The Andromeda Strain and Timeline. He wrote the screenplays for The Great Train Robbery and Twister, and also created the TV series ER. I loved his work, but he'll forever have a place in my heart for creating one of my favorite characters: Andre Marek of Timeline. The movie changes the character a bit from the book, accommodating actor Gerard Butler's Scottish heritage. This was one of the first Gerry Butler movies I saw, renting it within a few weeks of Tomb Raider 2. It was the classic, "Who IS that guy?!" I was a goner! Timeline is not Oscar worthy by any means, but it's a fun popcorn pic and Andre Marek is the best thing in it, besides the always wonderful Billy Connolly!

Here's two fan videos to give you a taste of Andre Marek, archaeologist sent back through time to meet his true love. Thank you, Michael Crichton!

Fun Trivia, Anna Friel who plays Lady Claire in Timeline now stars in Pushing Daisies!

Michelle Obama's Dress - Love it or Hate it?

In a night of ecstasy there was only one sour note for me. What was Michelle Obama wearing? I am not a fan. Just a little weird looking and distracting for such a big night, and usually I love what she wears. Yahoo news reports that she didn't pick this one up at H&M:

Michelle Obama's striking red-and-black dress worn Tuesday night as her husband became president-elect of the United States was designed by Narciso Rodriguez.

It was based on a style shown during Rodriguez's spring '09 runway show in New York.

So what did you think?
